When painting, there are so many unconscious rules and frameworks. "The painting needs to look like a thing" is one rule. Abstraction defies this rule, which can give it a rebellious and fun quality. Horse 025 has its head outside of the canvas which amuses me greatly. I identified the unconscious rule that the horse's head should be in the picture to justify the likeness. Deciding to disagree with the rule makes the painting playful and irreverent.
