The first works in the 100 Horses collection were bursting out of the gate. They then evolved into standing horses and at this point, the work become deeply introspective. I was thinking about the nature of painting: it feels like a combination of taking action (putting marks on the page) and then changing gear to "listen" to the painting. The work emanates via the combination of two opposing forces: taking action and then the receptive act of paying attention.
